I have to admit, as an author auditioning voice actors for my stories, I'm not quite sure what to expect when I begin the process. I am able to hear a sample of what can be done, and the script I send is mine to choose. But in a tale such as An Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody, there are so many voices, a little bit of horror, lots of characterization, and some subtle humor, I needed someone experienced to interpret all the crazy situations in the tale.
I'm going to let you in on a secret. I did have accents planned for some of the characters when I wrote the book, but others Brad suggested. For instance, Ginger, who is from Louisiana.
“Where do people come up with these recipes?” she asked her chipmunk. “As much as I want to believe this stuff works, I wonder how many vampires rid themselves of the curse by sipping a rotten infusion. You’d think there’d be some reviews.” She flipped to the index and skimmed the alphabetically arranged lists. Nothing under 'A' for assessment, nor 'R’ for review.
“Seems odd no one wrote in to tell the author if it worked or not. Chance! Pure chance, I suppose. Unless—" She looked at her pet chipmunk. "Maybe they all died, the ones who drank this stuff.”
Dusty gave her a curious tilt of his head.
“Well think of it this way. If it's so easy to turn a mortal person into an immortal beast, then why is it so hard to reverse the curse?"
This is the most professional performance I could hope for and I'm sure it's going to bring you pleasure. Honestly you would have to try hard not to laugh.
The audiobook will be available on Audible, but Audiobooks beat them to it so I'm giving you the link now. Other venues will be available soon also.
This performance reminds me of the old radio shows we used to listen to when I was a kid. Completely entertaining. It's funny, there's a mystery, there's romance, and very little vampire shenanigans, (since our vampires in the story are inept.)
